Hi, I’m John. Let’s Take Some Pictures.

That’s me and my family about to enjoy one of California’s great delicacies, the incomparable, In-n-Out Burger.

The Origin Story

I was four years old when my grandfather placed a Nikon in my hands.

I have no idea if he knew what he was starting. But from that moment, I’ve been quietly obsessed — with light, with timing, with the split second before someone realizes they’re being photographed and their face does something completely, beautifully real.

Growing up, photography was never a hobby I had. It was just something I did, the way some kids drew or played music. And while I’ve played various instruments and enjoyed playing a fool on stage for as long as I can remember, through a camera was how I paid attention to the world.

The Journey

I’m a first-generation American, a husband, a father, and a big brother — which means I’ve spent a lot of my life watching people I love navigate big moments. Milestones. Transitions. The kind of days that feel impossible to hold onto.

In 2014, I packed up my life in Chicago and moved to Los Angeles chasing something I couldn’t quite name yet. It took a few years of grinding, shooting everything, and saying yes to every creative opportunity before it clicked: this is the work. Turning a lifelong passion into something real, for real people, on the most important days of their lives.

How I Work

I’m not a “stand here, look there, smile” photographer.

I believe the best images happen when people forget I’m in the room. My job is to create the conditions for something genuine — and then be ready when it happens. That means I’m low-key on set, I give direction that feels more like conversation, and I will absolutely crack a dumb joke if it gets a real laugh out of you.

What I’m always after: honest moments, beautiful light, and photos that make you feel something when you look at them ten years from now.

A Few Things About Me

I take my coffee seriously. And I will judge you based on your order.

There’s always music playing during every shoot. Always. And if the situation won’t allow for it, know that there’s still a happy little song playing in my head.

Lifelong Chicago Bulls fan. Yes, even now.

Dad jokes are a core part of my creative process.

Based in Los Angeles. Will travel anywhere the work is great.

If you’ve made it this far, I have a feeling we’d work well together. I’d love to hear about what you’re planning.
